Binders Full of Women T-shirts and Binders

During the second Presidential debate, Mitt Romney claimed that when he was Governor of Massachusetts, he wondered if he couldn't find more qualified women for his staff.

BINDERS FULL OF WOMEN T-SHIRT Quote: "And I – and I went to my staff, and I said, 'How come all the people for these jobs are – are all men?' They said, "Well, these are the people that have the qualifications.' "

Romney said he requested "a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet."

"I went to a number of women's groups and said, 'Can you help us find folks,' and they brought us whole binders full of women," Romney said.

According to CNN, "Before the debate was over, there was a Twitter hashtag, a blog, a series of memes, and a Facebook page with over 100,000 fans. The phrase was the third-fastest rising search on Google during the debate." (source: CNN)

Tshirts for the 47%

Mitt Romney was caught on tape saying that 47 percent of Americans who had no federal income tax liability would “vote for the president no matter what.” He says he doesn't care about them ("my job is not to worry about them"), and obviously as President he wouldn't represent them. This is pretty appalling by any standards, but the worst of it is the cynicism of the comments. Basically, he was telling a room full of rich people (they paid up to $50,000 and more to attend this event) that he would be THEIR president, and ONLY their president. Disgusting.

Let's Poke a Little Fun

Well, the Republican National Convention is upon us all...whether we like it or not. It's going to be wall to wall Republican coverage for the next few days. Thank God some of us love tennis and will be watching the awesome Roger Federer in the US Open for the duration! But still...it's time to poke a little fun at the Republicans, don't you think? You've got the Romney-Ryan ticket. Mitt Romney, the guy who runs away from every position he's ever held (except the missionary one, if you get my Mormon drift), who won't show us his tax returns, who really doesn't want us to know anything about him, and yet he wants to be President? As my British friends would say, "NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!" Mitt Romney Adult MaskMitt Romney Halloween Mask

And then he picks Paul Ryan to be his running mate...the same Paul Ryan who idolizes Ayn Rand (who, I might point out, was born in Russia!!!). Now according to Wikipedia, Ayn Rand "advocated reason as the only means of acquiring knowledge and rejected all forms of faith and religion," had at least one extra marital affair, and for whom, at her funeral, a "six-foot floral arrangement in the shape of a dollar sign was placed near her casket". A fine role model! So here are some humorous Romney and Romney-Ryan tshirts for you to sport thru the silly season:

Why Won't Mitt Romney Release His Taxes?

Mitt Romney recently declared that he would not release more than his 2010 and estimated 2011 tax returns.

Despite the fact that Democrats, Independents and Republicans (link) alike have called on Romney to release his taxes, he adamantly refuses. What is he hiding? Is it possible those returns would show greater involvment in Bain Capital than previously reported by the candidate? Is it possible Romney paid NO taxes for a period of time? Is it possible the returns would show even more offshore investments than his 2010 returns? Whatever it is, all signs point to damning information, because clearly Mitt has made a decision to take the flak he's currently taking, because it's less than the firestorm that would be unleashed if he did release the taxes.

Mitt Romney...retroactively

Yesterday, July 15, the word "retroactively" suddenly began trending on Twitter. Why? Well, because Ed Gillespie, senior advisor to Mitt Romney 2012, tried to claim on CNN's State of the Union, that Mitt Romney ""retired retroactively to 1999" from Bain Capital. Bain, as you may know, is the company, founded in 1984 by Romney and others. Now it appears Romney WAS, in fact, CEO, main shareholder and president of Bain Capital from 1999-2001. How could he retire retroactively, you might ask? Beats me. Here are some funny tshirts to come out of this latest kerfluffle.

Mitt Romney: the EtchaSketch Candidate

First, the news story:

‘Etch a Sketch’ comment creates new doubts about Romney

March 22 (Bloomberg) -- As he moves closer to clinching the Republican nomination, frontrunner Mitt Romney is facing fresh doubts about his commitment to core party principles after a top aide’s televised gaffe amplified critics’ charges that he is a political shape-shifter.
The former Massachusetts governor is within reach of securing his party’s nod -- well ahead of his rivals in convention delegates, polls and campaign cash after his latest win in the Illinois primary. Still, he was thrown on the defensive yesterday when a longtime adviser compared his campaign to an Etch a Sketch, a toy that can be shaken to erase what is marked on its surface.
The issue arose when the aide, Eric Fehrnstrom, was asked on CNN whether he is concerned that Romney might be forced by his Republican opponents to take extreme positions during the primary that could alienate moderates in a race against President Barack Obama.
“I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign,” Fehrnstrom said. “Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up, and we start all over again.” (source: Washington Post)

Mitt Romney: I'm Not Concerned About Poor People

Boy, Willard "Mitt" Romney really knows how to put his foot in it, doesn't he? I don't know that I could ever vote for someone who doesn't have the ability to speak diplomatically, and he doesn't. In his eagerness to appeal to the far right, he's lost the ability to speak humanely.

Remember the $10,000 bet offer he made to Rick Perry during one of those interminable debates?

Or his offhanded comment that he only made nearly $375,000 in speaking fees in ONE YEAR, a sum he dismissed as "not very much"?

Or when he said he likes to fire people?

Romney is Gecko shirt

Or when he told a group of out-of-work Floridians that "I'm also unemployed"? Or when he joked that he feared pink slips? Or when he flip flopped on abortion, on health care, immigration, climate change?

And today, his latest gaffe? "I'm not concerned about poor people".
