Gifts for New Citizens

Every year, thousands of people earn their citizenship or are naturalized as US citizens. Generally, you need to be 18 years or older, and possess a legal green card. You must have lived in the US for five years (3 years if married to an American citizen). In addition, you must take a citizenship test and interview, mostly consisting of knowledge of US history and civics, and be able to explain in your own words the "Oath of Allegiance". You may be asked about this at your interview. You also must be able to demonstrate that you have basic proficiency in the English language.

Then you must fill out the proper form (N-400 "naturalization" form). Finally, you will be asked to take the Oath of Allegiance at a ceremony. Many of these ceremonies take place on the 4th of July (and if you don't know what that date signifies, you're not ready for your citizenship!!!!). We thought, with Independence Day around the corner, we'd look for t-shirts celebrating new citizenship. Wouldn't that be a great gift for someone who just passed their test and took their oath of citizenship? These ones are from Zazzle, and the t-shirts start at about $17:
