Hey, you have six days left to vote on the New 7 Wonders of the World. Among the modern "wonders" you can vote on are the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids, the Kremlin, the Taj Mahal, Stonehenge, and the United States' only entry, the Statue of Liberty (which was actually a gift from the French).

Not on the list, my personal choice: Roger Federer.

I'm as mad as a wet hatter at the Supreme Court these days, and I really mean the ultra right wing conservative reactionary activist faction made up of the five conservatives who are dominating things right now. They're setting us back to the 1940s or earlier. It's all part of the whole conservative fundie movement to create a society of the superrich and the servile class.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

According to yahoo.com "Hank Medress, whose vocals with the doo wop group the Tokens helped propel their irrepressible single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" to the top of the charts and who produced hits with other groups, has died of lung cancer. He was 68."

Buy His Shirt for a Good Cause: His Leg

I read about this fellow in the Willamette Week, a weekly newspaper in Portland, Oregon. In essence, Tarver Hannant had his leg amputated after multiple (more than 40!) painful surgeries and many years of agony. Now, he finds out that:

"Hannant, an account executive for a lending company, soon discovered how painful the financial burden of a prosthetic replacement can be. His insurance company, HealthNet, would contribute only $5,000 annually toward what he expects to cost $30,000 to $40,000 this year for his leg and prescriptions, plus future annual check-ups."

So he decided to raise some money by selling t-shirts. I urge you to check out his website and buy a t-shirt. This is a good cause. Technically, you donate $25 to his cause, via PayPal, and he gifts you with a t-shirt. (There must be a legal reason for that.) Be sure to read all the instructions for payment because they can be a little confusing.

The Pope Sez To Drive Carefully!

Pope Benedict XVI, the former Cardinal Ratzinger, has issued his Ten Commandments for Drivers, with such gems of wisdom as the first one: "You shall not kill". Motorists are warned against allowing their vehicles to become ''occasions of sin'' by such acts as driving recklessly or using them as havens for prostitution. Whaaa?

Road rage, according to the ''Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road'' can lead to ''impoliteness, rude gestures, cursing, blasphemy, loss of sense of responsibility or deliberate infringement of the highway code.'' So chill out and drive like a good sheep....I mean, a good member of the flock.

David Hasselhoff is Hot Stuff these days

When he's not making news with his messy divorce or his messy personal problems, David Hasselhoff is starring on "America's Got Talent", a pretty amusing show on NBC. Even when his star waned temporarily here in the US, he was (not unlike Jerry Lewis) huge in Europe - partly because his music was popular over there. Threadless has the best publicity in the world

You probably know about the website Threadless, don't you? It's a site where people submit their own design ideas or slogans, and then the "community" votes for the best tee. It's quite a great idea, combining the best uses of the internet, bringing people together, creating a sense of community, and of course, selling stuff. And at least a couple of times a month, some major news outlet does a story on them. That's why I say that Threadless has the best publicity in the world.

Knut the Polar Bear T-shirts

Knut, the polar bear who lives at a zoo in Berlin, Germany, just keeps making news. Latest news is that Suri Cruise (of TomKat issue) visited the little guy (Knut's not so little anymore but he's still attracting millions of visitors).

Happy Flag Day! USA Flag T-shirts

Happy Flag Day! That's right, June 14 is National Flag Day in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. It's a minor holiday, not even an official federal one (Pennsylvania celebrates it as a state holiday). But it's a great reminder that now is a good time to grab some US Flag T-shirts in time for the Fourth of July. That's right, folks, Independence Day is only a couple of weeks away!
