Sad News About the Whales

People, it's not just the whales that are in trouble. Our entire oceanic ecosystem is on the verge of collapse. We need to educate ourselves TODAY, there is no time left to waste. Experts believe that the oceans will become unable to sustain life in any form within the next 40 years. That's not some nebulous "great great grandkids' lifetime" - that's within YOUR lifetime, and MY lifetime.

One day after attempted rescue, six stranded whales die on Australian beach
Six whales have died after becoming stranded on a southwest Australia beach, one day after conservation officials attempted to rescue them.
A pod of about 90 long-finned pilot whales were stranded on Hamelin Bay Tuesday. More than 70 of the mammals died, along with four dolphins, but about 10 whales were guided back out to sea by officials from the Australian Department of Environment and Conservation. Six of the rescued whales washed up on a different beach less than a day later. Three died of natural causes Wednesday, and the other three were shot by veterinarians due to their poor condition. Rescued Australian Whales May Be Beached Again

Oh, no, this is awful! But I have to say it's wonderful to see all the people out there on the beach trying to save these magnificent animals. I hope the few that were actually saved find their way back out to sea.


Rescued Aus Whales May Be Beached Again
Eleven stranded whales who were returned to sea by rescuers in Australia are trying to return to shore. The long-finned whales are thought to be disoriented as they keep trying to swim back to the spot where they beached earlier this week.

"They're meandering around at the moment," Department of Environment and Conservation officer, Laura Sinclair, said. "It's not an unusual situation but we're just trying to guide them out further. If one strands itself again, it could put out distress signals to bring them all back."

Whales Stranded, Beached, Dying in Australia

Lately, there have been an unusual number of stranded whales in the Australia area. Large groups of them wash up, or become stranded, on beaches in Tasmania and elsewhere. This is terribly distressing. Most recently, more than 80 whales washed up along the coast of Australia over the weekend. Sadly at least 67 of those whales and dolphins died before rescuers could reach them. Earlier this month, 194 pilot whales and seven dolphins became stranded on a sandbar in Tasmania. Only 54 whales and dolphins survived to go back into the ocean.

What is causing this terrible tragedy? We need to find out, before we lose all these magnificent mammals (yes, whales are mammals, just like us).

Those poor whales in the Bay Area just can't seem to find their way back to the ocean. It's very sad, and I hope they make it. The plight of these guys propelled me to find the best "Save the Whales" tee I could locate on the web. And there it was, on the site called Save the Whales.
